How the target is worked out
How it calculates
The target sell price is your average buy price × (1 + your target return). An average of 50,000 with a 20% target puts the sell price at 60,000. Multiply that by the quantity you hold and you get what the position would pay out at that price.
Fees are not included here
This is the figure before trading costs. To see what survives the fees, put the same price into the profit calculator as the current price — it also gives you the break-even, which is the price where the fees are covered and you are level.
Frequently asked
How do I find the price where I stop losing money?
Set the target return to 0 and you get your average buy price back. That ignores fees, though — for the real one, use the break-even in the profit calculator.
How much does it need to rise to undo a loss?
More than it fell. A 50% drop needs a 100% rise to get back to even. Put the current price in as the average buy and your original price as the target to see the rise you need.
What return should I aim for?
That is not something this calculator answers. It tells you what a given return works out to in price, nothing more.
