How averaging works
What an average buy price is
Total invested divided by total quantity. However many times you bought and at whatever prices, it collapses to one number: what you paid per coin on average.
What buying more does to it
Buy below your average and it falls; buy above and it rises. How far depends on the size of the new purchase against what you already hold — the more you have in, the less the same amount moves it.
Working backwards from a target
Target mode reverses the question. Give it the average you want and it tells you how much more to buy at a given price, or how low the price must be for a given quantity. An average below the current price cannot be reached by buying more, and the calculator says so rather than returning a number.
Buying with a set budget
Budget mode takes an amount instead of a quantity: how many you could buy with it, and where that leaves your average.

Are fees included in the average?
The average itself uses price and quantity only. For the price that clears fees as well, see the break-even in the profit calculator.
Does it handle buying above my average?
Yes. Enter a higher price and you get the raised average. There is no separate mode for it — the price decides.
Should I be averaging down?
Not a question this calculator answers. It shows what a purchase would do to your average. Whether to make it is a decision outside the arithmetic.
